OpenAI has secured a $110 billion funding boost, with Amazon and NVIDIA among the key investors. This underscores the escalating competition in the AI sector. This appears to be the largest private funding round in history for any startup or company.

The cash infusion has taken OpenAI’s value to somewhere between US$730 billion and US$840 billion. This is a significant increase from the US$500 billion valuation in October 2025.

OpenAI’s $110 Billion Funding Boost: What We Know

Sam Altman announced to the world that OpenAI had just “raised a $110 billion round of funding from Amazon, NVIDIA, and SoftBank.”

“We are grateful for the support from our partners, and have a lot of work to do to bring you the tools you deserve,” Altman wrote on his X (previously Twitter) account.

According to reports, OpenAI received $110 billion in funding from several tech giants. Amazon has pitched in $50 billion, with NVIDIA and SoftBank committing US$30 billion each. The current funding round for OpenAI is over, and more investors are expected to participate in the ChatGPT maker's next round.

Amazon's Continuous Support to OpenAI

Amazon’s US$50 billion investment in OpenAI is expected to happen in two stages. Approximately US$15 billion is to be infused immediately, and the remaining $35 billion is expected in the coming months, contingent on certain conditions. Sam Altman tweeted OpenAI’s excitement on partnering with Amazon “to bring a new generation of products to market, especially around new enterprise products like the stateful runtime environment.”

Altman also confirmed that OpenAI will use Amazon’s Tranium AI chips for ChatGPT’s infrastructure, with 2 gigawatts of capacity.

OpenAI is also expected to expand its existing $38 billion deal with AWS to $100 billion over the next eight years. AWS will also become an exclusive third-party cloud provider for Frontier, OpenAI’s enterprise platform.

NVIDIA’s Investment and Strategic Interests

NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang committed to investing up to $100 billion in OpenAI in September 2025. Whether the current $30 billion investment from NVIDIA is part of that overall package is not clear right now.

“NVIDIA has long been one of our most important partners, and their chips are the foundation of AI computing,” Altman wrote on his X.com handle. “We are grateful for their continued trust in us, and excited to run their systems in AWS. Their upcoming generations should be great.”

OpenAI’s Growth Strategy and Its Implications

According to the latest reports, currently, ChatGPT has over 900 million weekly active users and more than 50 million consumer subscribers. With fresh capital secured, OpenAI is expected to accelerate model development, expand AI infrastructure, and deepen global partnerships. The funding also highlights a broader industry trend: Big Tech’s escalating investments in computing and advanced AI systems. As capital intensifies, competition will increasingly emphasize scale, efficiency, and long-term innovation.
