OpenAI held DevDay 2026 in San Francisco on September 29, introducing Dots and several major developer tools. The ChatGPT maker targeted persistent AI work, faster coding, and collaboration through new models, plans, plugins, and agents.
Dots lead the event as always-on AI agents designed to handle recurring responsibilities across connected applications continuously. OpenAI says Dots can learn preferences, use thousands of connected apps, and work through ChatGPT across supported plans.
The company also introduced GPT-6.1 Sol, which targets near-Astra intelligence for coding, computer use, and professional workflows. OpenAI calls its performance “exceptionally strong” for agentic coding and professional work.
OpenAI says Sol delivers similar capabilities at one-fifth of Astra's standard input and output token prices. Ultrafast adds a premium speed tier, reaching 300 tokens per second in Codex for supported workloads.
The company says Ultrafast can generate tokens up to eight times faster in Codex than standard processing. Pro 500 expands ChatGPT's subscription range with a $500 monthly tier and the highest usage allowance available.
The plan offers 25 times the ChatGPT Plus allowance and includes access to Astra Ultrafast. ChatGPT also gains collaborative spaces where teammates, agents, documents, plugins, and recurring tasks can work together.
Pages will support shared research and writing, while collaborative slides will let teams edit presentations together. Business and Enterprise users can also mention @ChatGPT inside Slack and Microsoft Teams for workplace assistance.
Plugin extensions now support interactive panels, while improved discovery aims to connect developers with relevant users. Codex moves further into cloud workflows, allowing developers to run tasks remotely across computers, phones, and other devices.
The refreshed Codex CLI adds voice controls, while Code Review and Security Cloud expand developer workflows. OpenAI also introduced the Decisions API, computer use for the Agents API, and Bedrock Managed Agents for AWS.
Feature access varies by subscription, with several advanced tools limited to Pro, Enterprise, Business, or selected developer plans. OpenAI described DevDay 2026 as its biggest event yet, with more than 20 major announcements.
