NVIDIA has made an agreement of USD 250 million in computing resources over five years to support AI safety research in the UK. This deal will provide the country with USD 50 million in resources each year to advance toward its dream of being a prominent name in AI governance and security. The funding will help researchers to test AI systems that can carry out tasks with limited human input. These AI agents will be able to take action on their own, which raises new safety concerns.
NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang about AI safety and advancement revealed, “AI capability and safety must advance together. This is how the UK turns research leadership into real-world solutions, and scientific progress into a future that benefits everyone.”
The move comes as more people question how safely AI agents can work without close human control. The concerns have increased after the OpenAI and Anthropic incidents of AI agents breaking ecosystems and hacking third-party websites. Regarding the donation from NVIDIA, British AI minister Kanishka Narayan mentioned that it will ensure the future of AI will be “safe, secure and that serves people's best interests.”
AI agents can do more than answer questions. They can carry out tasks with less human help. But they can also make mistakes or take unexpected actions. Researchers need to find these risks before AI agents become common in offices and public services.

The UK can help set global safety standards through research, university programs and government rules. Its experts can test AI models made by companies in other countries and share their findings. This gives the country a way to shape the field without hosting a major AI developer.
NVIDIA's pledge gives UK researchers more computing power to study AI risks. However, the real test will be whether this support leads to better safety checks, useful research and rules that keep up with new AI systems.
