NVIDIA-backed Upscale AI has launched Token Fabric, a new platform for connecting AI chips from different companies. The goal is simple: AI data centers should be able to use chips from more than one supplier without building separate setups for each. Token Fabric is designed to use Upscale's networking chips and tools that implement Nvidia's Spectrum-X technology. The platform will combine SkyFabriX silicon and switch trays and will operate as one software combining SkyOS and SkyCMD. It will identify issues and flag equipment that may need replacement.

Upscale AI expects a good return from the platform. The startup is backed by companies like NVIDIA, Salesforce, and Singapore state investor Temasek, which helped it raise a USD 190 million extension to its early-stage funding round, which increased its total funding to USD 500 million. The CEO of the AI Startup, CEO Barun Kar, has revealed he expects that Token Fabric will generate tens of millions of dollars in revenue next year.

The platform gives data center operators more choice. Instead of relying on one chip maker, companies could mix different AI accelerators to meet their needs. This could become useful as demand for AI computing keeps rising. Regarding the launch of the platform, NVIDIA’s senior vice president of networking mentioned, “The network is the backbone of the AI factory, keeping accelerators connected and productive as systems scale.”

According to the reports, the first part of the platform will be launched in the fourth quarter, with the rest rolling out in stages through 2027.

AI Chips Need to Share Data Quickly

Multiple AI chips do not always mean better performance. These chips need to send huge amounts of data to each other while running AI models. If that data takes too long to move, some chips may sit idle. This makes the network between the chips very important.

A faster connection can help keep the chips working together, but getting chips from different companies to work well together can be difficult. Token Fabric is designed to help with this problem by creating a common way for different chips to communicate.

The AI race is mostly focused on faster chips and bigger data centers. This means the network connecting AI chips could become just as important as the chips themselves. If Token Fabric makes mixed-chip systems easier to build, it could help data centers become more flexible as AI demand grows.
