Nothing OS 4.0 has officially begun rolling out after weeks of beta testing, bringing major design tweaks, faster animations, new customisation options and improved system stability. The update prioritises performance, customisation and long-term battery health, making it one of the biggest OS releases from the company yet.
Nothing has officially confirmed that Nothing OS 4.0 will begin rolling out to the public on Friday, 21 November. The announcement comes after months of anticipation, with the company positioning the new software as a central part of its AI-first strategy.
The company opened testing to users in late October through the Nothing OS 4.0 open beta programme and thanked testers for their feedback in a note shared on its community site.
Nothing announced in a post “A quick update on Nothing OS 4.0. We know you have been eagerly waiting for the general release and want to say a special thank you to our Beta testers for providing valuable thoughts and feedback. The wait is nearly over.”
“The full announcement and rollout of Nothing OS 4.0 starts on 21 November. Let your phone bring flow to your life,” the post added.
Nothing OS 4.0 retains the company’s minimalist visual identity while making practical enhancements. Extra Dark Mode makes late-night use more comfortable and may improve battery life on OLED screens. Pop-Up View introduces easier floating-window multitasking. A new condensed 2×2 quick settings tile layout cleans up the notification shade.
The lock screen personalisation is enhanced with two new clock face options. Nothing Playground, an evolution of Essential Apps, lets users create and share small widgets and apps that can help personalise the phone without relying on heavy apps.
Nothing Phone 2 series gets the Stretch feature from the Phone (3) range, which subtly reframes and corrects photos without any need for manual editing. The company has confirmed that Lock Glimpse is switched off by default on the Phone 3a models. This feature received a lot of criticism since its release.
The Nothing Phone 2 and Phone 3, along with the Nothing Phone 2a, 2a Plus, 3a and 3a Pro, are expected to receive the update from day one. However, Nothing hasn’t yet provided a formal device list for the stable rollout.
Support for additional models, including the anticipated Phone 3a Lite, is likely to follow. The update is expected to cover the company’s CMF sub-brand, which runs Nothing OS.

Eligible devices will receive the update gradually over the following days. The rollout of Nothing OS 4.0 marks a major milestone for the company, redefining its software vision with smoother performance, cleaner visuals, and deeper customisation options.
Nothing OS 4.0 positions the brand to compete more aggressively in the premium Android space with its bold design identity and a renewed focus on stability. The best part is that more features and refinements are still to come. It remains to be seen how these modifications will revolutionise the smartphone market and spur the competitive aspirations of Nothing’s counterparts.
