Nintendo Switch 2 owners can breathe easy for now. The company has reassured gamers that it’s not planning another price hike at this moment. Nintendo president Shuntaro Furukawa shared this update after the console became more expensive in several regions.
In the US, its price went from USD 449.99 to USD 499.99 in September 2026. Nintendo says it has stocked enough memory chips to meet its needs. This has helped the company avoid another price rise for now. However, it has not ruled out a future change.
The earlier price hike came as memory chips and other parts became more expensive. Notably, it not only affected Nintendo, but Sony and Microsoft also increased the prices of their consoles multiple times in the last few months. Changes in currency rates and rising oil prices also added to the problem. Nintendo has also seen changes in Switch 2 sales. Still, the company says it has enough parts to keep making consoles.
The original Nintendo Switch had a very different price journey. It launched in 2017 for USD 299.99 and stayed at that price for years. Nintendo later raised it to USD 339.99 in August 2025. The Switch 2 followed a different path. It launched at USD 449.99 before going up to USD 499.99 in September 2026.

Console prices usually fall as production gets cheaper. However, things are not that simple anymore. Memory chips and other parts are becoming more expensive. Demand from AI companies is also putting pressure on memory supplies. Changes in trade rules, fuel costs and currency rates can add to the problem.
This is one of the reasons console makers are not able to cut prices as often as they did in the past. Instead, they may offer special deals or game bundles to attract buyers.
For now, Nintendo is not planning another Switch 2 price hike. However, rising costs could change that decision. Players hoping to buy the console at a lower price may have to wait a little longer.
