WhatsApp is said to be developing a new feature that will enable Android users to disable their camera while answering a video call. The feature, found in the beta version 2.25.7.3 of the app, will enable users to answer video calls in voice mode. It will work just like similar features on platforms such as Google Meet and Microsoft Teams.
The feature was discovered via an APK teardown according to reports. It adds an option called Turn off your video when receiving a video call. If turned on, the call will automatically go into an audio-only mode unless the user chooses to enable the camera again later. Users can also get an Accept without video prompt for confirmation before answering the call.
At present, WhatsApp only permits users to turn off video upon answering a call. This new feature would provide users with greater control and privacy before answering.
Aside from this update, WhatsApp is said to be developing various new features, such as:
UPI Lite Payments: Streamlined payment system enabling transactions without the need for a PIN.
Meta AI Interface Revamp: Upgrades to the AI chatbot with voice mode on by default and new prompt suggestions.
The camera toggle feature is currently in development and has not yet been released to the public. It is anticipated to be released in upcoming updates as WhatsApp continues to develop its video calling feature.
