Netflix is reportedly exploring plans to bring rival streaming services Peacock and Fox One into its app. The discussions involve Netflix executives, NBCUniversal and Fox, with talks reported on August 24.

The move could help Netflix become a broader streaming hub for fragmented entertainment. The platform could sell rival subscriptions or host selected content within its app.

The reported discussions remain exploratory, with no imminent deal confirmed by Netflix so far. The proposal could change Netflix’s closed model by adding third party streaming services.

Such access could help viewers discover multiple platforms without switching between separate apps. Amazon Prime Video and Roku already offer similar subscription options through their platforms.

Netflix has also tested outside programming through its partnership with French broadcaster TF1. The company added live channels and on demand content from TF1 during June. Netflix co CEO Greg Peters later described the partnership results as “promising” during an earnings call.

The possible Netflix app expansion could follow two different models for rival services. Netflix could sell Peacock and Fox One subscriptions directly through its platform. Alternatively, selected shows and channels could appear inside the Netflix content experience.

The strategy could give Peacock and Fox One another route to reach potential subscribers. Netflix could also gain distribution revenue while keeping viewers inside its ecosystem. The shift would place Netflix closer to Amazon Prime Video, Roku and YouTube.

YouTube plans to offer Peacock access through its Premium service next year. Netflix’s reported discussions show how streaming platforms increasingly compete through aggregation.
