Microsoft has confirmed a major announcement regarding the Surface for Business line. The company is expected to launch new products during the AI Tour event, scheduled for 30 January 2025 in New York. This revelation was made through a LinkedIn post from the official Surface account. Analysts have reported that Microsoft will likely launch Intel-based models of the Surface Laptop 7 and Surface Pro 11.
These expected devices will integrate Intel’s graded-up Lunar Lake processor, marking a significant upgrade for Microsoft’s Surface for Business portfolio. The company will introduce these devices since the Surface Laptop 7 and Surface Pro 11 will be Intel-powered Copilot+ computers in the Surface line. These devices will be developed for business customers, and their major aim will be to provide improved performance and functionality.
However, it is anticipated that the processing power handled by an advanced design of Surface Laptop 7 will be considerable. Subsequent models will follow the Snapdragon-powered Surface Laptop 7 design, which will maintain the branding and performance for existing customers.
The new Surface devices are primarily targeted at Microsoft’s business customers. Therefore, these products will be directly offered to users via the Microsoft Store rather than conventional outlets like Amazon and Best Buy. This decision aligns with the organization's strategic direction to formulate and offer products that conform to the business market. It also guarantees better control over its products and its clients because Microsoft will sell them directly.
These devices were announced a few months ago, the same year Microsoft launched the Surface Pro 10 and Surface Laptop 6 with Intel Meteor Lake processors. This refresh focused on delivering better performance to consumer and business users, and the Copilot+ devices expanded Microsoft’s lineup for business-oriented people.
The next Surface Laptop 7 and Surface Pro 11 might continue the series’ business and utility-centric approach. However, there are checks on other Surface devices aimed at consumers. If such devices exist—a possible 11-inch Surface Go or Surface Laptop Go hybrid based on the Snapdragon X Plus processor—they will not be unveiled on January 30. However, the expectation is that this company will focus on producing and marketing business devices alone.
The consumer-targeted Surface updates, the next consumer-focused Surface refresh, won’t be released before late 2025 and early 2026. The present plan is to make the update in January to address business customers, but Microsoft’s future updates will include refinements across all Surface divisions as it continues to strive for dominance in the consumer and business markets. Based on this innovation, it is equally probable to wait to see how the provision of Intel-powered devices for businesses will shift to other markets.
