Technology is advancing at an incredible pace, and industries are recognizing that integrating it into their services and products is crucial for staying competitive.
Meta has made a significant move in this direction by introducing a prototype for the Meta Neural Wristband. This device is highly anticipated, as it has the potential to transform human-computer interaction completely.
The Meta wristband controller is capable of significantly reducing the need for input devices like keyboard, mouse, microphone, and touchscreen. It essentially uses surface electromyography, also called “sEMG,” to interpret user movements. In simple words, the device detects electrical signals produced by muscle activity to communicate with computers.
With this wristband, users can conveniently interact with digital content across various platforms simply by making hand gestures. According to the Reality Labs research, the device can detect even a millimeter of finger motion. The study further suggests sensing the intention to move a finger with this device might not be a long shot.
Once the device safely passes all the tests and gets launched, it could be a transformational change for people with a wide range of neuromotor abilities. Unlike Elon Musk’s Neuralink, the Meta wristband controller does not require any chip implantation and has comparatively fewer risks involved.
The Meta wristband price has not yet been announced to the public, as it is still in the prototype stage. No information about its pricing or launch date has been disclosed yet. In addition to the wristband, Meta offers other innovative devices, such as AI glasses, which assist individuals with visual impairments, hearing difficulties, and limited mobility by enabling them to make calls, send messages, and capture photos using voice commands.
