Facebook Dating To Launch ‘Meet Cute’, Offering Surprise Courtship Matches Delivered Every Week

Meta has announced a disruptive, AI-powered assistant to enhance Facebook Dating by streamlining matchmaking and chat. This week, the company announced that Facebook Dating would help people “avoid swipe fatigue”, using an artificial intelligence-based dating assistant.

The free platform within the app, named Facebook Dating, has been launched for users in America and Canada. The tech giant claims that the feature “makes it easier to find love by meeting and starting conversations with people who share your interests”.

The AI-Powered Dating Assistant Experience

Meta said the AI bot will give users “personalized help on [their] dating journey, and will find better matches based on interests and preferences.”

“The assistant allows users to go beyond traditional traits like height or education, allowing you to enter unique prompts tailored to what you’re looking for. For example, you can write ‘Find me a Brooklyn girl in tech’ and the dating assistant will help you with your search. You can use the assistant to provide dating ideas or help you level up your profile,” Meta revealed.

Functions of Facebook Meet Cute

The tech leader announced that Facebook Dating would launch ‘Meet Cute,’ which is an automated weekly “surprise match” chosen for users by the platform. It said the feature will take the indecision out of online dating.

“Meet Cute is ideal for anyone tired of swiping and is looking for a fresh, easy way to expand their typical pool of dating candidates,” the tech giant said.

Meta said it’s also “exploring the option of adding other frequencies into the mix for Meet Cute,” but noted “users can unmatch their surprise matches and opt-out any time”.

Facebook Meet Cute tools are being gradually rolled out across the US and Canada, where Meta said “hundreds of thousands” of 18 to 29-year-olds are already creating dating profiles every month.

Competition Among Dating Apps

Match Group, the owner of Tinder, Hinge, OKCupid, and other dating platforms, already signed a deal with OpenAI last year. Despite losing 68% of its stock price in the last five years, the Match Group has invested over $20 million in integrating AI in dating apps. 

This partnership has now produced an AI photo selector tool for Tinder to help users select the best profile picture to enhance AI-powered matching. Hinge also integrated a smart prompt and response feature using AI.

With dating app user numbers rising globally, companies are hustling to innovate and stand out with unique experiences and functions. Facebook already has a huge user base across the world, and the integration of AI for matchmaking could act as a key differentiator, where the algorithm will decide based on the candidate’s preferences.
