LG Electronics is set to release its first-ever flagship LCD based on an RGB micro-LED backlight. The new model indicates a major shift across technology developments in the coming years.
LG Micro RGB Evo uses red, green, and blue micro LEDs for the backlight, as opposed to the blue or white versions normally found in LCD panels today. The tech giant claims this new technology will offer a wider color range than ever before, making it a viable alternative to current OLED screens.
The company claims the TV is certified by Intertek for its 100% color gamut coverage as per the BT.2020 standard. The model has more than 1,000 zones of local dimming, which ensures accurate color control and lighting adaptation.
At the heart of the Micro RGB Evo is LG’s new Dual AI Engine-based on (Alpha) 11 AI Processor Gen 3. This processor can effortlessly handle lighting and 4K upscale, analyzing images frame by frame brightness and color.
LG stated that the AI processor is meant to provide better lighting in dark areas without hurting bright areas. The model will also include the latest version of webOS AI, featuring an improved level of personalization combined with fuller interactivity using an AI-powered chatbot.
Affirming that the latest user interface has been optimized to learn about user viewing behavior, this LG launch is also set to offer faster content discovery.
LG’s announcement comes following an escalating competition for the RGB backlight technology. Samsung introduced the first Micro RGB TV in 2025; a string of similar offerings is expected to appear at the CES 2026 exhibition.
Though Micro RGB Evo boasts over 1,000 dimmable zones, it falls short on this count when compared to rivals like TCL QM8K, which has 5,000 zones. LG Micro RGB Evo (model MRGB95) sizes include 100 inches, 86 inches, and 75 inches.
All details concerning the model price and specifications are yet to be released by LG, with possible chances of further announcements at the CES event.
