JPMorgan Chase topped the 2026 Evident AI Index on October 6, securing the global banking AI crown. The ranking covers 50 major banks across North America, Europe, and Asia-Pacific markets. JPMorgan widened its lead through strong performance across talent, innovation, leadership, and transparency.

The fifth straight win places JPMorgan ahead of Capital One and Royal Bank of Canada globally. Evident evaluates AI maturity through more than 70 indicators and public data across four pillars. Capital One retained second place, while RBC held third and Commonwealth Bank stayed fourth.

JPMorgan ranked first or second across every pillar, giving it the strongest overall position. Capital One led the talent and innovation categories, keeping pressure on JPMorgan despite the wider gap. UBS ranked sixth as Europe’s highest placed bank, while DBS reached 25th globally.

The latest ranking also highlights a sharp acceleration in banking AI adoption across the industry. Average scores climbed 26% year over year, nearly three times the 2023 to 2025 pace. Evident called the increase the fastest acceleration since the index launched in 2023.

JPMorgan’s lead also reflects sustained technology investment across its banking operations. The bank expects to spend about USD 19.8 billion on technology during 2026, up roughly 10%. It also plans USD 1.2 billion more for major projects, including AI-related initiatives and customer technology.

The bigger shift now centers on proving business value rather than simply expanding AI deployment. Evident found only 12% of reported use cases show impact against operational KPIs. Barely 1% disclose concrete financial returns from individual AI use cases.

Evident co-founder Alexandra Mousavizadeh said, “Roles are changing, and some are not being backfilled.” She added that leading banks continue growing both business and headcount.

JPMorgan, RBC, and Commonwealth Bank also rank among the strongest AI talent hirers. The trend suggests leading banks increasingly view AI skills as core infrastructure.

The leaderboard remains stable, but competition is tightening across the wider banking sector. JPMorgan’s advantage now depends increasingly on scaling AI while proving measurable value across operations.
