JioHotstar is now a global OTT platform, launching its streaming service in the UK, Canada, and Singapore. This move takes its Indian entertainment catalog beyond India for the first time. Users in these markets will get more than 160,000 hours of content across 12+ languages, including films, TV shows, regional programs, originals, reality shows, kids’ content, and anime. The service will work on mobile devices and connected TVs.
The platform library includes popular shows, movies, and Hotstar Originals like ‘Criminal Justice,’ ‘Special Ops,’ ‘Asur,’ ‘Aarya,’ ‘Dhurandhar,’ ‘12th Fail,’ ‘Chhichhore,’ ‘Jab We Met,’ ‘Ali Baba Aur Chaalis Bhoot,’ ‘Prince of Mollywood,’ ‘Part Timers,’ and ‘Big Boss.’ Apart from that, subscribers can get early access to content from JioStar TV channels.
JioHotstar also introduced quarterly and annual plans in all three markets. In the UK, the quarterly plan costs 19.99 Pounds, while the annual plan costs 69.99 Pounds. Canada gets plans at CAD 19.99 and CAD 49.99, while Singapore subscribers will pay SGD 29.98 quarterly or SGD 69.98 annually. The platform also plans to add more than 30,000 hours of fresh content every year.
JioHotstar is adding interactive features too. Viewers in the UK, Canada and Singapore can vote live during Bigg Boss. Users in the UK and Canada will also get access to its 24x7 live feed, while Canadian viewers can watch Bigg Boss Hindi seven days before its TV broadcast.
While commenting on Jio’s global expansion, Amit Malhotra, Head of International Business, JioStar, mentioned, “As we expand internationally, our ambition is to show what becomes possible when scale, language, cultural diversity, personalization and deeper audience participation are built into the streaming experience from day one.”
The launch targets Indian viewers and others who want Indian stories while living abroad. With 12+ languages and a mix of Hindi and regional content, JioHotstar is aiming beyond one audience.
The global launch shows how Indian entertainment is finding a bigger audience outside the country. With fresh content, regional shows, and interactive features, JioHotstar is now looking to turn that interest into a global streaming business.
