Reliance Jio and T-Mobile joined hands to test a 5G Standalone (SA) roaming connection between India and the US. It will allow T-Mobile customers to visit India and keep their phones active through Jio’s 5G SA network. The companies announced that this is the first 5G Standalone (SA) roaming connection. Syniverse helped link the two networks. The deal gives Jio a new role in making 5G networks work across borders.
The development is also notable for India’s telecom market. Jio built one of the country’s largest 5G SA networks, giving it a ready base for international roaming. The test shows how that network can connect with a major US operator. It could also support new services that need a direct 5G connection, including future AI-based applications. Mark Yarkosky, Head of International Network, Partnership and Services at Jio, mentioned that this partnership is a step towards interoperability between 5G SA networks.
