Jio Platforms has attracted around USD 25 billion in anchor investor bids for its USD 3.2 billion IPO, Reuters reported on October 19. The telecom and digital services company drew demand nearly 30 times its reserved anchor quota from global institutions. The response highlights investor interest in Jio’s scale and expansion into cloud computing and artificial intelligence.
Singapore’s GIC, BlackRock, Fidelity and Abu Dhabi Investment Authority featured among the reported bidders. Jio opened its institutional bidding process on Monday, ahead of public subscriptions scheduled to begin October 21. The company aims to raise up to USD 3.2 billion, potentially valuing the business at approximately USD 108.3 billion.
Jio operates Reliance Industries’ telecom and digital businesses under the leadership of Akash Ambani. Its services cover mobile connectivity, fixed broadband, entertainment, enterprise technology, cloud services and AI offerings. The company transformed India’s telecom market in 2016 by introducing free voice calls and low-cost data plans.
Jio now serves more than 500 million subscribers, competing with Bharti Airtel and Vodafone Idea. Its IPO will test how investors value its massive customer base alongside its growing technology ambitions.
Jio plans to use up to Rs. 27,500 crore of the IPO proceeds to repay or prepay borrowings at Reliance Jio Infocomm. The offering also marks Reliance Industries’ first major public issue since Reliance Petroleum’s 2006 listing.
The strong anchor response arrives as India’s IPO market attracts larger fundraising efforts. Reuters reported that Indian IPO proceeds reached USD 12.65 billion year to date, up 8.3% from the comparable period last year.
Anchor bids indicate demand but do not guarantee final allocations or strong listing performance. Investors will get a clearer picture when public subscriptions open on October 21 and close on October 23. The shares are expected to list on October 28, according to market reports.
