Jack Dorsey-owned Block has launched Buzz, a new workplace collaboration platform. It aims to bring employees and third-party AI agents onto a single shared workspace. The platform combines workplace messaging, software development tools, and AI-powered workflows in one application. It offers an alternative for companies like Slack.

Many organizations still manage communication, coding, and automation across separate platforms. Buzz is designed to place those functions inside one workspace.

What Does Buzz Offer?

Buzz works as a workplace collaboration platform for both people and AI agents. It includes threaded conversations, direct messaging, voice support, code repositories, and automated workflows. It is a model-agnostic platform that allows organizations to use different AI models instead of depending on a single provider.

The company has also built Buzz as a decentralised, self-sovereign, and open-source platform. This website shows the platform's name and its focus on collaborative work by flying bees across the screen.

Buzz has been released under an open-source licence. This gives developers full access to the platform's source code. Teams can customize their own deployments, build new features and adapt the software to suit their internal workflows.

This level of flexibility could appeal to organizations that want better control over workplace software instead of relying on closed enterprise platforms. Block has also made the free desktop application available for macOS, Windows, and Linux.

Block's Wider AI Strategy

Buzz enters a market where Slack has become one of the most widely used workplace collaboration tools. At the same time, AI-focused collaboration platforms have gained attention as companies increase the use of AI agents for software development and business operations.

The launch also fits into Block's wider AI strategy. Earlier this year, Jack Dorsey said that the company would reduce its workforce from more than 10,000 employees to just under 6,000 as it shifts towards a more AI-driven way of working. Alongside Buzz, Block's portfolio includes Square, Cash App, Afterpay and Tidal.

Block owns apps like Square, Cash App, Afterpay, and Tidal. In February 2026, Dorsey already stated that the company would shift to using AI more in its work. Block is betting that a platform capable of bringing conversations, coding, and AI workflows into one workspace can simplify how teams work.

The company says Buzz is still at an early stage, making it too early to judge how quickly enterprises will adopt the platform. Buzz is still evolving, though its launch shows Block's effort to build a workplace platform where employees and AI agents can work together instead of operating across multiple disconnected tools.
