Apple Tops List with iPhone 15 Series

Apple managed four out of ten spots in the smartphone sales chart with iPhone 14 appearing at seventh spot. According to Counterpoint Research's Global Handset Model Sales Tracker, more than half of smartphone sales are accounted to Apple's iPhone Pro models in Q3 of 2024. Hence, it marked a new inclination toward pricey devices.

Samsung Enters Top 10 with Galaxy S24

Samsung topped most of the top 10 lists with five models. However, Apple brought home the top three. This is the first time a Galaxy S-series phone, Samsung Galaxy S24 has received a top-ten rating since 2018. The rest of the four products in the list were from Samsung's budget-friendly A-series, which addressed larger customer segments at different price points.

Budget Phones and AI Features Succeed

Other than Apple and Samsung, the Redmi 13C 4G was one of the budget smartphones that marked success since it ranked ninth in international ranks. It means budget gadgets start to gradually compete with premium ones in the market.

AI technology’s embodiment in the devices in the form of Apple Intelligence in Apple's iPhone models and Galaxy AI in Samsung's Galaxy series has also boosted sales.

Increased Demand of Smartphones High-End

The report shows that the premium smartphone demand has been more or less growing for Apple in 2024. Observing the trend, it is noticed that users opt for the Pro variants rather than the standard ones because these provide better performance and features. As the Pro variants now make up half of the total sales of iPhones, Apple was able to increase the gap between its high-end and standard products.

Prospects for Apple and Samsung for the Future

Apple and Samsung are likely to strengthen their grip on the global smartphone market. With AI, both have strong footholds for releasing new features to cater to almost every type of customer. The competition will also stay tight in the budget category as Xiaomi's Redmi retains most of its customer base.
