With iOS 27, this could also mean Apple optimizing its software for the upcoming iPhone Ultra/Fold, which is expected to feature a 7.8-inch display upon unfolding and could offer an iPad-like experience. Apple iPhone 18 Pro series and the iPhone Ultra are already getting all the limelight for the biggest changes. The new update is rumored to be Apple’s answer to Samsung and other smartphone makers who have introduced several AI features.
iOS 27 is said to be the biggest update for Apple Intelligence. According to Mark Gurman’s report, the eligible iPhones will finally get AI photo-editing tools and a Siri camera option. Although the focus will be on boosting performance, it will be quite meaningful for iPhone users.
As per Mark Gurman, Apple is planning a Snow Leopard-style update for iOS 27, taking inspiration from MacOS X Snow Leopard that was released in 2009 and focused on making subtle improvements and quality control rather than flashy announcements.
According to reports, iOS 27 will include a dedicated Siri app. It will feature a new interface, support for third-party agents via the App Store, and the ability to perform multiple tasks at once. Additionally, users may see Apple Intelligence-led photo editing with new tools to extend, enhance, and reframe images within the Photos app.
The update may include an upgrade to Visual Intelligence. The capability, currently powered by ChatGPT, will be integrated into the Camera app as a Siri mode alongside the existing photo and video options. It may also provide nutritional information from food packaging and collect contact information.
Siri in iOS 27 is said to be able to control features on iPhones and Macs. The voice assistant will reportedly be able to access users' personal data, such as messages, notes, and emails, to answer queries. Siri will also be able to complete tasks within apps, such as accessing news or searching the web on behalf of users.
