007 First Light has opened its journey with massive sales numbers. Reports suggest the game sold around 1.5 million copies during its first 24 hours after release. The game had built decent hype, but the sales figures show the actual performance is more impressive than expected.

The strong launch has quickly made it one of the year's biggest game launches. Early reactions indicate that players are enjoying the slower-paced spy gameplay, stealth missions, and cinematic style. The success is also important as spy games rarely reach this level of launch sales today.

Players Praise Stealth Gameplay and Bond’s New Style

The game was launched on May 26, 2026, and two days later, on May 28, IO Interactive has released an announcement thanking fans for their ‘overwhelming enthusiasm’ and love for the game.

Before 007 First Light was launched, the last successful James Bond game was 007 Legends, released in 2012, on PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, PC, and Wii U. Thus, the excitement among the Bond fans for a younger version of the legendary detective was normal. However, what 007 First Light has excelled at is the stealth system. Instead of nonstop shooting, 007 First Light focuses more on sneaking through missions, blending into crowds, and gathering information.

Many players compared the game to Hitman because of its open mission design and social stealth features. The nightclub mission shown in the teasers remains one of the most talked-about parts of the game. Some players even mentioned that the nightclub design is much more impressive than the Hitman franchise.

Players have also praised the younger version of James Bond. Many fans feel the new design fits the grounded story and modern spy tone. The lighting, music, and level design have also received positive reactions across social media and gaming forums.

007 First Light Joins Other Major Game Launches

The strong launch places 007 First Light alongside recent big releases like Monster Hunter Wilds, Resident Evil Requiem, and Assassin's Creed Shadows. The former title sold 8 million copies in its first three days, and the latter two sold 1 million copies each in their first 24 hours of launch.

All these games opened with heavy player interest and strong early sales. However, action RPGs and horror games usually dominate modern gaming charts more easily than spy titles. That’s what makes the success of 007 First Light more surprising for many people in the gaming industry.

Spy Games Could Become Popular Again

For years, many major gaming companies focused mainly on online multiplayer and live-service features. IO Interactive took a different route by crafting a slower, more story-driven experience.

The early success of 007 First Light shows there is still strong demand for spy games that are built around stealth, tension, and detailed mission work. If it keeps performing well, more studios may return to this cinematic spy genre.
