Nintendo’s latest eShop chart reveals something utterly unexpected. The episodic indie RPG by Toby Fox, Deltarune, has overtaken blockbuster titles like Mario Kart World and Cyberpunk 2077. According to the first month of Nintendo Switch 2 sales chart, this Undertale follow-up is the best-selling game on the console.

Switch 2 bundle of Deltarune offers gamers Chapters 1 to 4 for $24.99 and promises Chapter 5 for free. This strategy seems to work magically, drawing strong consumer attention, as well as surpassing sales expectations for a third-party title.

Nintendo Switch 2 Initiating a New eShop Sales Trend

The first month's revenue figures of Nintendo Switch 2 eShop have surfaced, and shocking most gamers, an indie RPG has taken down Mario Kart World, the flagship Nintendo Switch 2 title. In an analysis performed by Newzoo, in the month of June, this game was the highest-selling all over the globe

The survey was conducted on gamers from six different countries, including Spain, France, Italy, Germany, the USA, and the UK. This report reveals the top five games sold on Switch 2 in the first month, where Mario Kart World, the most-hyped game on the console, was placed third. The second place is currently held by the Nintendo Switch 2 Welcome Tour.

Apart from these, the last two places are acquired by Minecraft and No Man's Sky. It looks impressive for sure, but players need to consider that it only includes the digital sales of these games. The physical sales aren’t really included. With these included, there’s a high chance that Mario Kart World will surpass Deltarune.

Is this a sign of a third‑party renaissance on Switch 2?

Traditionally, Nintendo’s first-party titles dominate the eShop sales chart. Therefore, players expecting Mario Kart World to maintain this convention weren't completely baseless. This expectation was fueled by the initial report that this Mario title had sold over 1.7 million physical copies.

Coming to the digital front, the scenario is completely different. The Undertale follow-up tops the leaderboard, with the most potent contenders, like Nintendo’s Welcome Tour and Mario Kart, trailing behind. This shift essentially hints at a new gaming trend: gamers now crave deeper, story-driven third‑party content, rather than traditional first-party adventures. This trend is fueled when the price and package are accessible.

Why is Deltarune's Success Significant?

Deltarune’s success on the eShop is a brilliantly crafted release strategy. Its SEO-optimized bundle is aligned with the release of Switch 2, offering newcomers and franchise fans compelling reasons to purchase this title. The boost came with the promise of a free Chapter 5 if one purchases the first four chapters.

This success brings hope for third-party games, but it’s not like Mario Kart World failed. This game is still shining brightly with its third position in the US sales charts for June. Even after considering this, it can’t be ignored that Deltarune’s digital success offers a new lens on consumer behavior. Despite the victory being more digital, it highlights a rapidly evolving Nintendo ecosystem.
