Written By : Anudeep Mahavadi

On April 19, 2025, the E-Town District of Beijing held an incredible event as Beijing became the first city to host a humanoid robot half-marathon. There were 21 humanoid robots competing with more than 12,000 human runners and the distance was 13.1 miles.

This event showcases the progress in AI-driven robotics. It also highlights how China is running laps around other countries when it comes to  humanoid robot development.

Tiangong Ultra Completed the Race

Beijing Humanoid Robot Innovation Center's Tiangong Ultra is the first robot to complete the marathon. The robot ran into technical problems while racing, it overheated and fell during the first two laps. Despite running into these challenges, it finished in 2 hours and 40 minutes. It showed us how humanoid robots can operate in complex real-world environments.

Humanoid Robots in Real Applications

The event gave a glimpse into what humanoid robots can achieve. This suggests robots may soon work in healthcare, logistics, and manufacturing. Humanoid robots can now perform tasks requiring both adaptability and mobility.

A Major Step for Robotics and AI

The humanoid robot half-marathon was more than just a race. This event was a key milestone in AI and robotics innovation. It also showed that humanoid robots were becoming more practical for daily use. If development continues, robots could become an integral part of many industries as well as the everyday life of citizens.
