GTA 6 is already set for a strong start. The biggest release of Rockstar Games has been breaking records even before its official release. According to a report by Sensor Tower, an analytics firm, the upcoming GTA game has already earned around USD 751 million from 7.71 million digital pre-orders on PS5 and Xbox Series X/S.
The firm has confirmed that these figures are recorded up to November 3 and the game is about to release on November 19. This is a huge start for Rockstar Games. However, the company has not confirmed these numbers, and the figures are based on estimates.
The pre-order race is intense, and PlayStation is clearly winning it. The estimate has pointed out that around 5.74 million PS5 copies were sold, which has added nearly USD 559 million. On the other hand, Xbox Series X/S has recorded around 1.97 million pre-orders worth USD 192 million. This gives PlayStation a 74% share of total digital pre-orders, while Xbox holds 26%.
Notably, GTA 5 has a still-untouched record of more than USD 800 million on its first day and crossed USD 1 billion in just three days. The advancement of GTA 6 shows this game may beat the record. However, both games have different starting points. GTA 5 first arrived on PS3 and Xbox 360 before coming to newer consoles. GTA 6 will launch on PS5 and Xbox Series X/S. So, comparing their sales is not that simple.

Here, one significant factor must be considered. The estimate that the firm has given is calculated from the digital pre-orders of the game. It does not include physical copies sold through shops. When the physical sales are added, the total amount will be much higher.
GTA 6 has already made a strong start, but its biggest challenge is still ahead. Pre-orders show that players are excited, but launch sales will tell the full story. Rockstar now has to prove that the hype can turn into record-breaking sales.
