The first look at the highly anticipated Grand Theft Auto VI (GTA VI) emerged as the most-watched title on Netflix for the week, outperforming major film and television releases on the streaming platform.

Netflix had a busy release slate last week, with the final season of Outer Banks premiering and Robert De Niro returning with the thriller The Whisper Man. However, neither title topped the platform’s viewing charts. The honor went to GTA VI gameplay footage.

The exclusive GTA VI preview premiered on Netflix for six hours before becoming available on YouTube and other video platforms. That limited window helped the nearly-27-minute video record 31.1 million views.

According to Netflix’s data arm, Tudum, the short film topped the streaming service’s charts for the week. The Whisper Man, starring Robert De Niro and Adam Scott, followed with just over 20 million views. Spanish film Facing El Chapo completed the top three.

Among television shows, Death of the Pastor’s Wife led the chart with 19 million views, while Outer Banks secured the third spot.

The nearly 27-minute video showcases the open-world game ahead of its planned November 19 release. It also marks the first time Netflix has featured marketing for an upcoming video game.

GTA VI was developed and published by Rockstar Games. It is the eighth main Grand Theft Auto game and the sixteenth entry overall, following Grand Theft Auto V, released in 2013.

Set in the fictional US state of Leonida, based on Florida, the game follows Jason Duval and Lucia Caminos. After a failed bank heist, the couple is caught up in a statewide conspiracy and must work together to protect one another.

The previous Installment, Grand Theft Auto V, sold more than 230 million copies. The first GTA VI trailer, released in 2023, has also crossed 293 million views on YouTube.

In the days before the premiere, more than a dozen GTA VI clips were leaked online. Take-Two Interactive Software Inc., the company behind Grand Theft Auto, has subpoenaed Discord Inc. in its effort to identify the leaker. Grand Theft Auto VI is scheduled to launch on November 19, 2026, for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S.
