GPT 5.5 Cyber, OpenAI's comprehensive AI model for cybersecurity workflows, is in its final stage of development. The company claims that the latest version is ‘more capable for advanced, authorized cybersecurity work’ and ‘more permissive.’

The latest model can do much more than just identify software vulnerabilities. It can analyze large codebases, identify security-related components, assess vulnerable code, and test potential patches.

According to reports, GPT 5.5 Cyber is OpenAI's most powerful model to date for identifying and assisting with patching software vulnerabilities. The company also maintains GPT 5.5's general-purpose intelligence and capacity to handle lengthy, complicated tasks.

New Cyber-Focused AI Outpaces Standard GPT 5.5

The GPT-maker released benchmark results showcasing improvements over the GPT 5.5 standard model. GPT 5.5 Cyber received an 85.6% score on CyberGym, surpassing GPT 5.5’s 81.8% score. This benchmark assesses whether an AI agent can replicate known software vulnerabilities.

According to OpenAI's comparison, the new model outperformed Anthropic's Mythos 5 on CyberGym. GPT 5.5 Cyber scored 39.5% on ExploitGym, while GPT 5.5 scored 25.95%. This is another test that gauges an AI's ability to transform known vulnerabilities into functional exploits that enable unauthorized code execution.

Benchmark scores are just one aspect of the model’s competency. “In practical terms, what matters is if a model can identify actual vulnerabilities, separate actionable problems from noise, and assist defenders in safely landing solutions.

As coordinated disclosures come to an end, we are still assessing the model's effectiveness on intricate repositories and actual remediation operations," says OpenAI.

The business added that it has been collaborating extensively with the US authorities on cybersecurity and AI safety. This involves working along with the Office of Science and Technology Policy (OSTP), the Office of the National Cyber Director (ONCD), and the Center for AI Standards and Innovation (CAISI).

GPT 5.5 Cyber is designed for verified defenders who require sophisticated cybersecurity capabilities, according to OpenAI. The business suggests GPT 5.5 with Trusted Access for the majority of users.
