India’s web-surfing experience has just received a major upgrade. The brand-new Google Search Live delivers real-time AI results and now understands 7 Indian languages, making it easier for users to find what they need faster and smarter.

India became the second country, after the US, to receive this feature. Supported by an AI-powered feature, users can engage in a conversation with Google Search using their phone's camera and microphone.

More About Search Live

Launched in the US in July, Search Live is supported by Google’s Project Astra technology, which is available through the company’s AI Mode. The Search Live feature allows users to point their phone's camera at objects to receive real-time assistance. Additionally, it supports back-and-forth conversations that draw on the visual context from the camera feed.

Search Live conducts real-time conversations and provides up-to-date information from the web simultaneously.

“People in India are power users of multimodal search, forming our largest user base for both voice and visual search globally,” said Hema Budaraju, vice president of product management for Search at Google, in a new blog post.

“The advanced reasoning and multimodal understanding of our custom Gemini Live for Search allows AI Mode to truly grasp the subtleties of local languages, ensuring AI Mode is genuinely helpful and relevant in all the new languages we introduce,” Budaraju said in the post.

In an example shared by Google, a user trying to perfect an iced matcha at home asks Search Live about the order in which to combine various ingredients and gets an instant response from the chatbot.

AI Mode in Multiple Indian Languages

Apart from introducing Search Live to India, Google has also taken a revolutionary step by making its AI Mode available in more regional languages. The feature will be available in seven more Indian languages, including Bengali, Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi, Tamil, Telugu, and Urdu. These seven languages will be available for users from next week.

Google said that the added language support is powered by the “company's advanced reasoning of its Gemini model for Search, which isn't just limited to translation but can truly grasp the subtleties of local languages.”

How to use Search Live in Google?

  • Update the Google app to the latest version on an Android or iOS device.

  • Open the Google app and tap the Live icon under the search bar.

  • Alternatively, open Google Lens and choose the Live tab at the bottom.

Conclusion: Why Tech Giants are Expanding in the Indian Market?

Just a month ago, Gemini Nano Banana went viral, which saw millions of images and reels flooding social media, with rapid user growth. Considering the demand, Google planned to leverage India’s early adoption of AI to train its systems on a wider range of visual contexts, making Search Live more capable over time.

Expansion of businesses in India is about a smarter strategy for Google and its competitors. By embracing the nation’s linguistic diversity, global tech giants are moving beyond urban audiences to reach India’s masses, driving the next wave of digital growth.
