Google confirmed Googlebook pre-orders will open on September 21, marking the next step for its new laptop category. The first devices will come from Acer, ASUS, Dell, HP, and Lenovo, with Google targeting a premium computing experience. 

Pre-orders will open at 9 a.m. ET, or 6:30 p.m. IST, through Google's official Googlebook website. The Alphabet company has not confirmed pricing, exact configurations, shipping dates, or India availability yet. 

Googlebook will focus on Gemini AI and deeper Android integration rather than continuing the traditional Chromebook approach. Google is replacing the ChromeOS foundation with an Android-based technology stack for this new category. The company aims to connect laptop tasks, AI assistance, and Android phones through a single computing experience. 

The biggest software highlight comes from Magic Pointer, which brings Gemini assistance directly to on-screen content. Users can point at an item and request analysis, comparisons, or content creation without switching into another application. The approach could make AI assistance feel more natural during everyday laptop tasks. 

Googlebook also introduces Create My Widget, which can build custom desktop widgets from natural language requests. Google demonstrated a travel tracker that combines flight, accommodation, and restaurant details within one interface. The feature gives Gemini a more practical role beyond conventional chatbot interactions. 

Android integration adds another major difference between Googlebooks and existing Chromebooks. Cast My Apps can bring Android phone apps onto the laptop, while Quick Access provides access to phone files. Google says these capabilities require Android 17 or newer on the connected phone. 

Acer, ASUS, Dell, HP and Lenovo will supply the initial hardware lineup, although Google has not confirmed launch configurations. Reports suggest premium displays and powerful processors. 

Google will also revive the Glowbar, a multicolor light strip positioned above the keyboard. The feature originally appeared on the Chromebook Pixel and now serves as a visual marker for Googlebooks. 

The September 21 pre-order date could therefore reveal more than availability alone. Pricing and hardware choices will show whether Google's Gemini-first strategy can compete with established Windows laptops and premium MacBooks.
