Google Unveils Gemini 3.6 Flash, 3.5 Flash-Lite; Next-Gen Gemini 4 Enters Training

Google expanded its Gemini AI portfolio with the launch of Gemini 3.6 Flash and Gemini 3.5 Flash-Lite, focusing on coding, multimodal capabilities, and affordability. Alongside the announcement, the company revealed that development of Gemini 4 is already underway.

Google has expanded its Gemini family with the launch of Gemini 3.6 Flash and Gemini 3.5 Flash-Lite, introducing two AI models designed to deliver faster performance, lower latency, and reduced operating costs for developers and enterprises. 

Alongside these releases, the company also unveiled Gemini 3.5 Flash Cyber, a specialized model focused on cybersecurity applications. The announcement reflects Google's strategy of making AI models more efficient for real-world workloads while its flagship Gemini 3.5 Pro remains under development.

Gemini 3.6 Flash Focuses on Speed and Efficiency

As the successor to Google’s workhorse model, Gemini 3.6 Flash is designed specifically for coding, knowledge-intensive tasks, multimodality, and AI agents. The company claims that the new model is more efficient in terms of tokens and needs fewer steps for reasoning to finish complicated workflows, thus saving developers their time and money on inference.

Gemini 3.6 Flash is said to have improved coding abilities, better functionality with the computer, and greater multimodality without latency issues. Additionally, this model allows inputting text, images, videos, audio, and PDFs.

Gemini 3.5 Flash-Lite Targets High-Volume AI Workloads

Google has launched a cost-effective version of the Flash series called Gemini 3.5 Flash-Lite for applications that prioritize low cost over reasoning capability. This series is useful for tasks such as document parsing, classification, data extraction, translation, and automation of AI processes on a large scale.

Flash-Lite is compatible with multimodal inputs but provides fast responses. It can be used by developers to create lightweight AI agents or process high-volume data.

New Cybersecurity Model Joins the Gemini Portfolio

Alongside these two general models, Google announced the release of Gemini 3.5 Flash Cyber, which is a dedicated AI model that has been created specifically for cybersecurity applications. The model is supposed to assist in detecting software vulnerabilities, ensuring the security of code, and remedying vulnerabilities.

At first, the Flash Cyber model will be accessible only to governments and trusted partners as Google grows its AI-driven security ecosystem. According to Google, the model was created to ensure faster security assessments and reduce the costs associated with repetitive code scans.

Availability Across Google's AI Ecosystem

Both Gemini 3.6 Flash and Gemini 3.5 Flash-Lite have become available via Google AI Studio, Gemini API, Android Studio, and other Google enterprise AI solutions. Furthermore, Google has begun deploying the Flash-Lite version of the model in various consumer apps such as Google Search.

Gemini 3.5 Pro Still Awaiting Release

While the company extended its portfolio of lightweight AI products, Google has still not given any dates regarding the long-awaited Gemini 3.5 Pro model launch. Initially intended to be launched earlier this year, this latest version is being tested by Google for performance issues in coding. 

According to Google, the release of the Gemini 3.5 Pro is to follow some more validation work, but development of the upcoming Gemini 4 generation is already in progress.
