Google is shutting down Firebase Studio, its browser-based tool for building apps. Developers must move their projects out by March 22, 2027, when the service ends and all remaining data is deleted.
Google announced the decision in March 2026. It said it wants to keep its tools simple and help developers pick the right place to start. The company says its newer AI tools suit today's needs better.
Firebase Studio let people build, test and launch apps from a web browser. It had AI help that could write code and create early versions of apps. Users did not need to set up anything on their own computers.
The shutdown is already underway. Since June 22, 2026, Google has not allowed new sign-ups or new workspaces. People who already use Firebase Studio can still open their projects for now.
That window is short. After March 22, 2027, the service will go dark. Anything left inside will be gone for good. Google has asked users to export their work before then and move it to another tool.
Google points users to two tools: Google AI Studio and Google Antigravity. Google AI Studio runs in the browser. Developers type prompts and chat with the AI to build full apps. The goal is to go from an idea to a working app with less hand-written code.
Antigravity works differently. It is a desktop program where developers work directly with code and manage several AI agents at once. It also works with AI models that are not made by Google.
Both tools connect to Firebase services, such as its database and hosting. Developers can keep using those parts of Firebase even after Studio is gone.

The move shows where Google is heading. It is putting AI at the center of coding and folding its offerings into fewer tools. Developers can also look at Cursor, Claude Code and OpenAI Codex. Price, subscription needs and AI usage costs will likely decide which one they pick.
For current Firebase Studio users, the first step is clear: export your projects before the March 2027 deadline.
