Google has introduced an AI-powered Playlist feature for YouTube Music, allowing users to generate customized playlists using text or voice prompts. The feature is rolling out to YouTube Music Premium and YouTube Premium subscribers on Android and iOS.
Users can access the tool through the Library tab by tapping ‘New’ and selecting ‘AI Playlist.’ Customers must describe their desired mood, genre, and theme through the system’s request. The announcement included a Gemini logo, which indicated that Google AI models were being used in the feature; however, it did not specify the name of the chatbot.
The AI Playlist tool uses Google’s Gemini models combined with YouTube’s music catalogue to interpret prompts. Users can request specific combinations through the selection of mood, tempo, era, and activity. They can search for ‘Afrobeat-inspired dance tracks under 120 BPM’ and ‘study-friendly ambient electronics with natural sounds.’
The system uses metadata together with artist connections and user listening history to create curated results. Subscribers can create customized playlists by deleting tracks or preserving their personalized playlists, which helps the model learn their listening habits.

Google confirmed the rollout in a post on X, describing the feature as a way to “instantly turn an idea, mood, or genre into a personalized playlist.” The launch marks another step in the company’s broader AI integration strategy across products, including conversational tools in Google Translate and planned Gemini integration in Google Maps.
YouTube earlier said it has crossed 100 million global subscribers across Music and Premium tiers. The newly introduced AI features will drive continuous development, according to analysts, as Spotify and Amazon Music have intensified their market competition.
The feature remains limited to paid subscribers and is expected to expand to more regions in the coming weeks.
