Google has launched a feature that lets people build custom Android apps and use them privately. The company announced it on October 13, 2026. Users can make an app with Google AI Studio and install it on their own phone using a regular Google account. No public release is needed.

The rollout started in the United States for users aged 18 and above. Google has not shared a launch date for India.

How AI Turns App Ideas into Working Android Apps

You describe the app you want in simple words. AI then writes the code for you. This is called vibe coding. It helps people with little or no coding skill build their own apps.

When the app is ready, users can install and run it on their Android phones through Google Play. Users do not need a developer account. Previously, testing a custom app could require connecting a phone to a computer or following a conventional app distribution process.

These apps stay private by default. They do not show up in Play Store lists or search results. The app remains private by default and does not appear in public Play Store listings or search results. Private apps must still follow Google Play's rules.

What's Changing Across Google Play

Google says it will add a sharing option in the coming months. You will be able to send your app to a small group of friends and family. People who want to reach a wider audience can move to a professional developer account. Public apps must pass Google's safety checks and meet its quality rules.

Google also announced a few other changes. Ask Play can compare apps and explain how they differ. Game Finder gives game suggestions based on your tastes. Google is also adding 48-hour gaming challenges called 'sprints,' along with more community features.

How Private App Creation Could Evolve

This update makes Google Play more than a place to download public apps. A person can now turn an idea into a working app without much effort. If the app proves useful, there is a clear path to share it with more people later.
