Google has started rolling out a new feature for its Find Hub app that alerts Android users when they leave a Bluetooth tracker behind. The addition brings Google's tracking service closer to Apple's Find My network, which has offered similar separation notifications for several years.

Called "Notify when left behind", the feature sends an alert when a tracker becomes separated from a user's phone. It could help people avoid losing everyday belongings such as wallets, bags, and keys that have compatible tracking tags attached.

According to reports, the feature is now appearing for some Find Hub users in the United States and Europe. It has been spotted working with Motorola's Moto Tag and Chipolo trackers. However, support does not appear to extend to other connected devices, including wireless headphones, at this stage.

Users can enable the option directly through the Find Hub app. They need to select a tracker from their device list, open its settings using the gear icon, and switch on the "Notify when left behind" option.

Google has also included an exception for the home address saved in the user's Google Account. This means the app should not repeatedly notify someone when they intentionally leave a tracked item at home.

The rollout follows Google's earlier mention of Left-Behind Reminders in its Google Play services update notes. The company had also been preparing changes to the tracker registration process, including options to rename tags and assign category icons for items such as bikes, luggage and wallets.

Another feature reportedly in development is NFC support. It could allow users to tap a lost tracker with their phone to access its details or identify the device.

The timing is significant as Google's first Pixel Tag is expected to arrive on November 11. Adding separation alerts strengthens Find Hub's usefulness as Android's tracking ecosystem expands. However, wider device support will be important if Google wants the service to match the convenience offered by competing platforms.
