Google has integrated its in-house AI image generator, Nano Banana, directly into Google Chrome, marking a deeper push to embed generative AI tools into everyday browsing. This feature is available within a new Side Panel powered by Gemini to edit photographs without the need to leave the browser.
Nano Banana is Google’s lightweight image generation and editing model, built to respond quickly to text prompts. Users can ask it to generate fresh images, remix visuals, or modify existing pictures, such as changing backgrounds, adding objects, or adjusting styles, within seconds. The tool runs inside Chrome’s interface, removing the need to open separate AI websites or apps.
The image generator sits in Chrome’s new side panel, powered by Gemini. From the same panel, users can also ask questions about webpages, summarize content, or compare information across tabs. Google positions this as a multitasking hub rather than a standalone creative app.
The rollout begins with desktop users signed into Chrome, starting in the United States. Google has not confirmed timelines for other regions, including India. Some advanced features may remain limited to paid Gemini plans during the early phase.
