Google AI Mode is expanding its role in travel planning with a new feature that lets users track flight prices and receive email alerts when fares change.

The update moves AI Mode beyond answering travel-related questions and into ongoing trip assistance. Google said the tool accesses flight information from more than 300 travel partners, including airlines and booking sites, across more than 180 countries and territories, with some regional exceptions.

For travelers who repeatedly check the same route while waiting for a better fare, the feature offers a simpler way to monitor prices.

How to Track Flight Prices in AI Mode

To begin tracking a fare, users need to open AI Mode in Google Search and describe the journey they plan to take. They can enter the departure city or airport, destination, preferred travel dates, and other details, such as a return date.

Google AI Mode can use these details to show current flight options and prices. Users can enter the information through plain English commands instead of filling in individual fields.

Once suitable flights appear, users can select the price-tracking option and confirm the request. Google said email notifications will alert users when fares change for the selected destination and dates.

Seven Steps to Monitor Airfare

The process involves seven steps:

  • Open AI Mode: Go to Google Search and open AI Mode.

  • Describe the trip: Enter the departure city, destination, and travel dates.

  • Review flights: Check available flight options and current fares.

  • Select tracking: Choose the option to track prices for the desired trip.

  • Confirm alerts: Confirm the tracking request and ensure email notifications are enabled.

  • Monitor changes: Watch the inbox for fare updates.

  • Book when ready: Recheck the fare and availability before completing the purchase.

Price Alerts do Not Guarantee Same Fare

The tracking feature brings Google Flights’ established price-alert functionality into the conversational AI experience. It can benefit travelers who are not ready to book immediately but want to act when prices change.

However, Google cautions that flight prices can change frequently and depend on availability. An alert signals a change rather than locking in a particular price.

Booking Still Requires Final Check

AI Mode does not purchase flights on behalf of users. Instead, it helps identify and monitor suitable options, while the actual purchase is completed through the relevant airline or travel partner.

Google is also adding other travel capabilities to AI Mode, including the ability to view flight and hotel costs using loyalty points or miles. The goal is to bring more stages of trip planning into Search while leaving the final booking decision with the traveler.
