Samsung could make a major change to its flagship smartphone strategy with the upcoming Galaxy S27 Ultra. The premium model is now tipped to receive the company’s Exynos 2700 chipset in select markets, potentially ending the Ultra series’ Snapdragon-only run.
The Galaxy S26 Ultra currently uses Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 for Galaxy. Reportedly, Samsung is considering an Exynos-powered S27 Ultra for markets including South Korea. The move would mark a significant comeback for Samsung’s in-house silicon at the top of its flagship range.
Samsung moved away from Exynos in its Ultra models after the Galaxy S22 Ultra, which used the Exynos 2200 in some markets. The processor faced criticism over performance and efficiency, pushing Samsung towards Qualcomm for subsequent Ultra generations.
The tech giant already confirmed that it is developing the Exynos 2700. A company executive previously indicated that the chip is being developed for top-tier smartphones, strengthening speculation that it could power the Galaxy S27 range.
Samsung may not use the Exynos 2700 across every Galaxy S27 model or market. Earlier reports suggested the standard Galaxy S27, S27+ and the rumoured S27 Pro would use Exynos 2700 in several regions, while the S27 Ultra would remain Snapdragon-powered globally.
The latest reports indicate that Samsung could instead introduce the Exynos 2700 to the Ultra in selected countries. Development code has also reportedly referenced both the Exynos 2700 and a Qualcomm chipset, suggesting Samsung is still pursuing a mixed chipset strategy for its 2027 flagship lineup.
