Square Enix has confirmed that Final Fantasy XIV Mobile will shut down on September 30, 2026. Before that, the company will stop selling in-game items and premium currency. After the shutdown date, players will no longer be able to log in or access any online features. After its initial announcement in November 2024, the game only rolled out in China. Now, with this impending shutdown, players from other countries will never even get the chance to dive into the game.
Notably, Final Fantasy XIV Mobile isn’t the only game Square Enix has been withdrawing. Previously, it announced the removal of Final Fantasy 7: Ever Crisis on October 16. The company has not shared the exact reason for ending these games. However, this is common in the gaming world. When a game loses players or no longer meets business goals, publishers often decide to end support and move their teams to new projects.
While FF14 Mobile is coming to an end, the Final Fantasy series is far from over. Square Enix is still supporting the main Final Fantasy XIV online game with new updates and future expansions.
The company also has several projects in development. Fans are waiting for the next chapter of the Final Fantasy VII Remake series, and more Final Fantasy games are expected in the years ahead. According to reports, several major single-player Final Fantasy games are releasing within striking distance of these shutdowns.
For example, HD-2D Final Fantasy Resonance will be released on October 22, 2026. Similarly, Final Fantasy 7 Revelation is set to release in Spring 2027. Square Enix has not revealed all the projects yet, but it has made it clear that the series remains one of its biggest priorities.

The closure of Final Fantasy XIV Mobile says a lot about how Square Enix is looking at mobile gaming. To keep an online game running takes time, money, and regular updates. If enough players are not staying active, it makes things hard for the developer.
At this point, the company seems to focus on mobile games with better long-term potential. It also shows that Square Enix is willing to make difficult decisions as the mobile gaming market continues to change.
