Elon Musk’s social media platform X has officially launched its new messaging service, XChat. The app is designed to offer more privacy and ways to control communication. The app is currently available on iOS and web; an Android version will arrive soon.
XChat is a unified messaging application native to the X platform, merging legacy DMs and new chat features into a single inbox. Musk broke the news about the app in June.
XChat is built to fill rising user demand for private messaging that is both secure and feature-rich, like WhatsApp. The app keeps its users secure through end-to-end encryption and is written in Rust, a programming language known for speed and security.
The key features include vanishing messages with customizable timers, sending any type of file, and audio and video calling across all platforms without needing a phone number.
XChat stands out for its encryption that relies on Bitcoin-like protocols, guaranteeing strong data protection. Performance and security are also heights due to the Rust architecture, which differentiates XChat from other messaging platforms.
Although XChat will be available to all X users, a selection of features will remain exclusive to the premium subscribers. Elon Musk has hinted that premium users will have benefits such as expanded storage, priority support, and early entry to experimental tools.
