Overview:

  • Zcash activated its NU7 upgrade on the public testnet, targeting 25-second block intervals

  • Cardano jumped 11% as futures open interest increased by around 15%.

  • Metaplanet plans to maintain 85%-90% of assets in Bitcoin while generally limiting Bitcoin-related borrowing to approximately 10% of its BTC holdings’ net asset value.

The crypto market saw major developments as Zcash activated its NU7 upgrade on the testnet, while Dogecoin printed its first golden cross on the daily chart in 14 months. Additionally, Cardano claimed 11% as futures open interest rose 15%, and Metaplanet capped Bitcoin borrowing.

Zcash NU7 Update

The privacy network activated its NU7 upgrade on the public testnet at block 4,465,026, shifting the target interval from 75 seconds to 25 seconds.

If services retain a three-confirmation policy, the target wait falls to about 75 seconds from 225, but this remains a testnet trial rather than a mainnet change. The test uses valueless coins to let developers and infrastructure operators rehearse the upgrade.

NU7 also redirects 60% of transaction fees to a future-reward reserve, cuts per-block rewards to preserve the ZEC issuance schedule, and disables Sprout transactions.

Dogecoin Makes Golden Cross

Dogecoin completed a golden cross on its daily chart, the first in the last 14 months. The daily chart shows a golden cross, with the 50 EMA crossing above the 200 EMA. Dogecoin has had multiple golden cross signals on the hourly timeframes, but the last golden cross on the daily chart was in August 2025.

On September 13, 2025, Dogecoin traded to a high of USD 0.3 mere weeks after the golden cross formation. This bullish momentum was short-lived; however, Dogecoin saw selling pressure in the following months.

Dogecoin was rising alongside the golden cross, up 3.88% in the last 24 hours to USD 0.0962. The next test for bulls lies at USD 0.106. First, it needs to decisively break the USD 0.095 and USD 0.098 levels. A clear breakout past USD 0.106 might target USD 0.12 and USD 0.16 next.

PEPE Rallied 5%

PEPE traded around USD 0.00000453 on October 5, after reaching an intraday high near USD 0.00000457. This puts PEPE back above the USD 0.00000445 resistance level after several days of recovery from the October 2 selloff.

Technical analyst Aditya Khatri identified a developing Wolfe Wave on PEPE's four-hour chart. The pattern formed inside a descending channel and projects toward approximately USD 0.000005 if buyers can sustain the breakout.

The move also follows September's much larger PEPE rally, when the token climbed approximately 42% in a week and briefly reached USD 0.00000515.

Khatri's setup identified USD 0.00000445 as the first breakout level, followed by USD 0.00000461 and USD 0.00000477. The Wolfe Wave projection then extends toward USD 0.000005.

Cardano Jumps 11%

Cardano (ADA) traded near USD 0.273 on October 5, after reaching an intraday high around USD 0.2734, while 24-hour trading volume approached USD 1 billion.

The move outpaced the broader crypto market and pushed ADA above the USD 0.26 area that had repeatedly capped recent recovery attempts.

The rally follows several weeks of ecosystem announcements. The Cardano Foundation recently confirmed two new projects with Petrobras using Cardano to verify sustainability data for aviation fuel and renewable diesel, extending an existing relationship with the Brazilian energy giant.

Cardano futures open interest increased around 15% in 24 hours, while positive funding rates indicated traders were building bullish positions. Technical setup shows USD 0.30 as the next major upside if ADA confirms the breakout.

Metaplanet Caps Bitcoin Borrowing

Metaplanet has revised its capital allocation policy to keep 85% to 90% of its assets in Bitcoin while setting aside up to 15% for investments that can generate recurring income.

According to an October 5 disclosure, the company plans to fund most Bitcoin purchases with permanent equity capital, while Bitcoin-related borrowing through its collateralized credit facility will generally be kept below roughly 10% of the net asset value of its BTC holdings.

Metaplanet held 44,000 BTC as of September 30, compared with 30,823 BTC when it established its original capital allocation policy in October 2025.

CEO Simon Gerovich said on X that the company sold and repurchased Bitcoin during the third quarter as part of an exercise to demonstrate the liquidity of its reserves.
