Polygon Labs Acquires Coinme

Polygon Labs has completed its acquisition of Coinme, folding 37 US state money-transmitter licenses and 11 applicable exemptions, plus federal registration, into the Polygon Open Money Stack and turning the Ethereum scaling team into a regulated payments operator, according to the company’s announcement.

The deal, confirmed on 14 October 2026, is the clearest step yet in Polygon’s pivot from layer-2 infrastructure toward the bank and card rails where fiat money actually moves. The transaction matters because it closes the gap between onchain value and the accounts people can spend from.

Coinme brings the licenses; Polygon brings the settlement and wallet infrastructure. Together they let a payments team move dollars in through banks, cards, or cash, settle across chains, and pay out where the recipient can use the money through a single integration.

AI Agents Handle USD 138 Million in Crypto Payments

A new report from Chainalysis shows that autonomous AI agents have made more than 138 million cryptocurrency payments through x402, the Coinbase-incubated protocol that lets software pay for online services automatically. Most of these payments were small in size, pointing to widespread use for small, automated microtransactions.

“Indeed, the vast majority of x402 activity registered as a micropayment in the 16 months ending in September 2026. Over 87% of payments fall between a hundredth of a cent and a dime, with the most common size between one and ten cents,” said Chainalysis. The x402 protocol supports these payments by letting AI agents make transactions independently, without human input each time.

Tether Launched AI Speech Model

Tether has released a 254 million parameter speech recognition model that can transcribe conversations directly on smartphones, smart glasses and humanoid robots without sending audio to cloud servers.

According to an October 14 announcement from Tether AI Research, the open-source model, called QVAC TranscribePsy, supports multilingual speech recognition and is designed to operate on devices with limited computing power.

The company said the model can transcribe 10 minutes of audio in 1.65 seconds on an iPhone 17 Pro Max using Apple’s Core ML framework. TranscribePsy is part of Tether’s QVAC AI project, which focuses on running artificial intelligence applications locally.

Crypto Liquidation Hit USD 1 Billion
