Google is ready to launch a significant update for Chrome on Android. It will improve user experience with the introduction of AI Mode and Incognito shortcuts on the New Tab Page (NTP). Already launched on desktop Chrome in July, pill-shaped buttons now sit directly below the primary search bar, accompanied by intuitive icons for instant identification.
With the new layout, Discover feed and favicon carousel, among other cards, are shifted further down the NTP. The layout visually fits within the top part of the primary Google app, replacing the colorful ring design temporarily experimented with. Incognito mode is now accessible with one tap, compared to having to navigate through the three-dot overflow menu, which is a quicker and easier way to change browsing modes.
Also, the Google AI Mode shortcut provides instant access to the platform’s testing experience at google.com/AI. Previously, this could be accessed through the Pixel Launcher search bar, homescreen widgets, or the Omnibar itself. The NTP shortcut will likely become the default mobile entry point, matching its desktop counterpart.
Adding these shortcuts simplifies browsing and puts important functionality at the forefront. Generally, the accessibility and ease of usage layout have made the most frequently used functions of Google Chrome more accessible and easier to reach.

This update is being rolled out gradually to users on Android and iOS devices who have installed Chrome 141 or later versions. Google hasn’t announced a global rollout schedule publicly, but the feature is expected to be available worldwide within a few weeks.
This redesign has helped Google Chrome reduce the differentiation between desktop and mobile. It has also connected users to AI intervention and simplified browsing tools with the help of a more advanced application.
