OpenAI is expanding ChatGPT beyond a traditional chat interface with the launch of Space, a shared workspace designed to bring people, files, and AI-assisted work into one place. OpenAI announced the feature at DevDay 2026 for users who need to create, organize, and collaborate without moving between multiple applications.
Space serves as a home for pages, uploaded files, and other work. Users can create separate spaces around projects or teams, then organize related material through pages and subpages. It also replaces the previous Library experience for accounts that have access to Space.
At the center of the new experience are Pages, editable documents that can be created from scratch or generated from existing ChatGPT conversations. Users can add text, images, charts, and interactive elements to a page, then keep refining the material with ChatGPT.
The system can handle tasks such as restructuring content, adding summaries, creating charts, and comparing information. Users can also leave comments on specific sections and ask ChatGPT to make targeted changes.
Pages are designed for collaboration as well. People with editing access can work on the same document in real time, while each collaborator can use their own ChatGPT to help with the shared content.
One of the biggest changes is how ChatGPT can use information already stored inside a Space. Teams can bring together files, pages and project information, giving ChatGPT more context when asked to research, update or build on existing work.
OpenAI also says users can give pages instructions on what to update, which sources to use, and when to run checks. The platform can therefore be used for project briefs, meeting notes, research summaries, dashboards and other recurring work.
OpenAI is also positioning Space as a place where its newly introduced agents, including Codex and the company's ‘dot’ assistants, can contribute alongside people.

Space is currently available to ChatGPT Pro, Business, and Enterprise users. Pages can be created and edited on the web and desktop apps, while mobile users can find, read, and share pages. Mobile editing is not currently supported.
OpenAI has also announced collaborative slides and spreadsheets, although those features are still listed as coming soon. The company is effectively turning ChatGPT into a shared workspace where conversations can become documents, documents can be continuously refined, and people can work with AI without leaving the same environment.
