CERT-In Warns Zoom Users About New Security Risks on Windows, MacOS, and Android

The Indian Computer Emergency Response Team, also known as CERT-In, has released a new warning for Zoom users. The alert came on November 14, 2025. It highlights serious security issues that can affect devices on Windows, macOS, Android, and iOS.

Key Weak Points Found in Zoom

According to CERT-In, several weak points within the Zoom app are responsible for the security issues that allow attackers to change file names or paths. Some problems come from weak checks on digital signatures. There are also issues in the way the app approves access and checks certificates. These vulnerabilities can help attackers break into a device, steal data or run harmful code.

The alert lists many versions of Zoom Workplace that are affected. Versions older than 6.5.10 are at higher risk. Older VDI clients and macOS plugins also have problems. These older versions make attacks easier. They can lead to data leaks, pop-up attacks or higher control on a device. CERT-In has marked this as a high-risk situation because the impact can be large.

Updates and Safety Steps for Users

Zoom has already released new updates to fix the issues. The company also shared notes that match the concerns raised by the government. The best and most secure option is to install the latest Zoom version. Only download the updates from reliable sources such as the Google Play Store, Apple App Store, or the official Zoom website. This is a good way to stay away from fake applications and malware.

CERT-In also shared simple safety steps. Users are prompted to install the latest update. Turn on automatic updates. Avoid opening unknown Zoom links. Check the app permissions for camera, microphone, and file access. These simple habits reduce the chances of an attack on Windows, macOS, Android, and all other platforms.

This alert shows how communication apps remain common targets for hackers. Even today, Zoom is used by offices, schools, hospitals and government agencies. A small weakness in such apps can affect many people at once. The alert also reflects India’s stronger focus on cyber safety. Similar warnings were issued in the past for apps like WhatsApp and Chrome.

The message from CERT-In is clear. Keep Zoom updated. Keep devices secure. Regular updates and simple safety steps can block most risks. The alert reminds everyone that strong digital protection is important as online communication continues to grow across India.
