ByteDance, TikTok’s parent company, grew first-half revenue by more than 30% to USD 120 billion in 2026. The Beijing-based technology giant benefited from stronger international advertising, livestreaming, and TikTok commerce.
Revenue growth accelerated as uncertainty around TikTok’s US operations eased after a January joint venture. Heavy artificial intelligence investment, however, pushed first-half net profit down to about USD 20 billion.
The results show ByteDance balancing rapid expansion with rising AI costs across its global business. The company is investing heavily in models, computing capacity, and infrastructure to compete with US and Chinese technology firms.
International advertising and e-commerce supplied key revenue gains, while AI research and infrastructure spending reduced profitability during the period. Sources familiar with the finances provided the figures to The Information and other outlets.
ByteDance recorded about USD 200 billion in revenue for full year 2025, marking 29% growth. First-half 2026 growth therefore moved slightly above the company’s recent pace. Net profit reached USD 42 billion last year, making the latest decline more visible as AI investment expanded.
TikTok’s improved US position also supported the latest revenue performance. ByteDance established a joint venture for its US operations in January, addressing a long-running regulatory dispute. The White House later lifted a 2023 restriction covering TikTok on federal government devices.
AI remains the larger financial priority as ByteDance expands its technology portfolio. The company operates several AI model families and has developed Seedance for video generation. It also continues adding AI capabilities across TikTok and Douyin for recommendations, content creation, and commerce.
Financing activity highlights the scale of the AI push. Nearly 30 global banks agreed to provide ByteDance with a USD 29.6 billion loan earlier this month. Sources said the financing supports general corporate needs, including AI research and development.
ByteDance has not publicly confirmed the reported first-half financial figures. The company’s latest performance instead points to a business funding an expensive AI expansion while maintaining strong advertising and commerce growth.
