boAt is expanding beyond Bluetooth audio with Crest AI, an artificial intelligence platform developed with Google Gemini for next-generation smart audio devices. Announced by Google Cloud and Imagine Marketing, boAt’s parent company, on August 27, the platform will bring conversational AI, productivity tools, translation and device control to audio products.

Gemini Live Powers Voice-First Interaction

Crest AI will use Gemini Live and Google Cloud infrastructure to support voice-driven conversations. According to the companies, users will be able to control devices, manage music playback, ask questions and access contextual assistance without relying on screen-based interactions.

The platform is also being developed with India’s linguistic diversity in mind. Google Cloud and boAt highlighted support for regional nuances and multiple dialects, potentially making AI-powered audio more accessible for users.

Crest Ask and Crest Translate Expand Capabilities

Two features will sit at the center of the platform. Crest Translate is designed to provide real-time, two-way translation, while Crest Ask will offer contextual conversational assistance for learning, ideation, questions and everyday interactions.

Google Workspace integration will add productivity. Users are expected to manage Gmail, Google Tasks and Google Calendar through voice commands, including scheduling meetings through natural conversations.

According to Sashi Sreedharan, Managing Director of Google Cloud India, voice and vernacular capabilities represent an important next frontier for AI adoption in India, with Gemini Live helping make such experiences possible at scale.

boAt Pushes Further into AI Hardware

Crest AI represents a broader shift in how boAt wants consumers to use its devices. Instead of limiting earbuds and other audio products to calls, music and basic commands, the company is positioning them as hands-free AI companions.

Imagine Marketing says boAt was founded in 2015 and has expanded into wearables, charging products and audio-visual devices. The company also reported that 71% of its total units were produced locally in FY2025, while boAt Labs employs more than 100 engineers.

Specific Crest AI device models, pricing and launch timelines have not yet been announced, leaving commercial rollout as the next detail to watch.
