Australia’s New Age Verification Law Could Reshape GTA 6 Online Gameplay

Australia’s Strict Age-Verification Rules Could Reshape GTA 6 Online Multiplayer Access for Gamers!

Another hurdle arrives for GTA 6 before the game officially launches. GTA games traditionally feature violent content that doesn’t suit every gamer's age. Though that’s the biggest plus for these games, Australia has tightened its online safety rules ahead of the upcoming installment.

The country is enforcing stricter age-verification checks for adult-rated online content. As a result, players in Australia may need to verify their age before entering Grand Theft Auto VI's multiplayer mode.

This move is part of a wider effort to prevent minors from playing violent games online. Since the GTA franchise carries the 18+ tag, the upcoming game will fall under the rule. If the law is enforced strictly, Rockstar Games may need to integrate verification tools before Australian players can join online sessions.

How Age Verification Could Affect GTA 6 Online in Australia

Under the proposed framework, players who want to access adult-rated online content must complete an age-verification step. At this point, it’s unclear what this step could be. It may involve a QR code, smartphone verification, ID checks, or facial age-estimation systems.

As of now, whatever Rockstar Games has stated, there’s no mention of GTA 6 Online multiplayer. However, considering the popularity of GTA Online, players expect to get an online multiplayer version of GTA 6

If the assumptions hold true, Australian players will probably get an additional step before entering the multiplayer servers. If anyone is unwilling to verify their age, they will probably be restricted from joining the server. Even if the game is legally purchased, the rules won’t allow anyone to join until they verify their age.

Reportedly, the rule mainly targets online games where players interact freely with the environment. Multiplayer modes often include open chat systems, player-created activities, and unfiltered interactions. These activities require stronger safeguards for younger audiences.

Age Verification Rules Expanding Worldwide

Australia is not the only country looking at stricter digital safety policies. Several other countries have been following a similar path for child safety. These laws aim to ensure that children play games that are suitable for their age. Protecting children from violent content is something that these laws are made for.

If such policies spread internationally, major online games, including GTA 6, could eventually adopt global verification systems. Developers have to introduce standardized checks for adult-rated multiplayer experiences.

For publishers, as well, this could add technical difficulties and privacy challenges. They have to implement verification tools and protect user data at the same time. This will create a different problem.

Is Age Verification Necessary for GTA Games?

The discussion around Australia restricting adult-rated content raises another important question: responsibility in gaming. The Grand Theft Auto series has always targeted adults. Still, a massive part of the fanbase includes minor players. Stronger verification could help enforce existing age ratings more effectively.

However, critics have expressed concerns about unnecessary barriers for legitimate players if the age verification is not implemented properly. So, the primary challenge is to keep the minors away while maintaining content for adult gamers.
