Apple has launched an updated version of its AirTag item tracker. The upgraded model has improved its range, sound output, and ‘find my integration’ features. The pricing range is kept the same in the Indian market. AirTag became widely popular for tracking everyday items such as keys, bags, and luggage.

New AirTag Launch

The new AirTag builds on the original model introduced in 2021. Apple confirmed that the updated version is designed to make locating lost items faster and easier. It will be useful for those items which are nearby but out of sight.

The tech giant has integrated a second-generation Ultra Wideband chip, which is also used in recent iPhone and Apple Watch models. This allows ‘Precision Finding’ to guide users from up to 50% farther away than before.

The feature uses on-screen directions, sound, and haptic feedback. Bluetooth performance has also been improved, which extends the distance at which nearby devices can detect an AirTag’s location.

AirTag Becomes More Louder

Apple has redesigned the internal speaker, which makes the new AirTag 50% louder than the previous generation. You can now hear the sound from up to twice the distance. It will help users to find items hidden in bags, drawers, or furniture.

In the upgraded device, Precision Finding is supported on Apple Watch. Users with an Apple Watch Series 9 or later, or Apple Watch Ultra 2 or later, can locate their AirTag from their wrist. It means that you don't have to rely solely on an iPhone.

How Should You Use the Share Item Location Feature?

The new AirTag supports Share Item Location. This iOS feature allows users to temporarily share the location of a misplaced item with trusted third parties. It includes participating airlines, which can utilize the shared link to help travellers locate their missing luggages.

Apple confirmed that over 50 airlines support the feature. Its access will automatically expire after seven days or once the item is recovered.

What Makes AirTag Special?

Apple confirmed that the new AirTag enclosure uses 85% recycled plastic, with recycled rare earth elements in magnets and repurposed gold in circuit boards; its packaging is fully fibre-based. The new AirTag is powered by the CR2032 coin cell battery, offering “more than a year” of battery life. It has an IP67 rating for dust and splash resistance.

Final Thoughts

In India, pricing remains unchanged. A single AirTag is available at Rs. 3,790, with prices ranging at Rs. 12,900 for a four-pack. Free personalized engraving is available through Apple’s online store and app.

The new AirTag will be available at Apple Store locations and authorized resellers later this week. Users should have iOS 26 or later, or iPadOS 26 or later, with an Apple Account and Find My enabled.

AirTag works with Apple’s Find My network, which uses nearby Apple devices to relay an item’s approximate location back to its owner, even when it is out of direct range. Apple claimed that this process is anonymous and encrypted.
