Apple has released iOS 27.2, the first major update to the iOS 27 operating system, bringing new Siri AI capabilities, changes to Apple Music, improvements to Messages and Podcasts, and additional features for compatible iPhones. Released on October 26, 2026, the update also introduces Apple Pencil support for the iPhone Duo and expands Siri AI language support.

Siri AI Gets More Languages and New Features

With iOS 27.2, Siri AI can recall previous conversations, allowing users to ask follow-up questions about information shared earlier. It can also use additional sources, including photos attached to Messages, Calendar event attendees, and voicemails, alongside improved results from Safari history and Reading List.

Apple has introduced an Excluded Apps setting that lets users control which apps Siri, Search and suggestions can access. Users can also select and copy specific portions of Siri's responses.

Siri AI now supports French, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese and Spanish. However, the feature remains unavailable in the European Union and mainland China.

Apple Music, Messages and Podcasts Get Updates

Apple Music receives a new black-and-white app icon, replacing its familiar red design. The update also changes the app's accent colors and refreshes its widgets.

Messages gains Suggested Actions, offering shortcuts based on conversations, such as creating a Calendar event or reminder. In Photos, users can edit captions and comments in Shared Albums, avoid duplicate pictures, and receive reminders before albums expire.

The Podcasts app now separates its Home tab into two sections: New Episodes and Continue Playing. The Games app also adds context to friend suggestions and displays recently played games on friends' profiles.

Meanwhile, the Apple TV app introduces user profiles on iPhone, letting household members keep separate viewing histories and recommendations. FaceTime also supports adding a third-party sign language interpreter or live captioner to a call.

Apple Pencil Support and Other Changes

The iPhone Duo gains support for Apple Pencil (USB-C) with iOS 27.2. Apple Pencil Pro and other Pencil models are not supported.

The update also expands Dual Capture to Group FaceTime calls, allowing compatible iPhones to show front and rear camera views simultaneously. The European Union receives an alternative expanded prompt for App Tracking Transparency.

Users can install iOS 27.2 by opening Settings, selecting General, and tapping Software Update. The release also includes security fixes and improvements across Apple's software ecosystem.
