Recently, Mark Gurman, Bloomberg’s iPhone specialist reported that Apple is exploring the future of augmented reality headsets along with camera-equipped Airpods.

According to the report the potential launch date is penciled in for 2027, although this may change.

Features Expected in Smart Glasses

The new smart glasses are expected to be quite like Meta's Ray-Ban Stories and would be integrated with cameras, speakers, and microphones. This means that users will be able to capture photos, and videos, receive calls, and interact with AR experiences that are projected over the real world. These glasses may deliver tough competition to the newly announced Meta’s Orion glasses.

The Camera-Equipped AirPods

The most interesting part of this is, of course, the introduction of cameras into AirPods. No new specific details have been let out yet, but it seems that Apple is exploring new ways of integrating audio with visual capabilities. Camera-enabled AirPods can be used for capturing on-the-go moments video conferencing, or even adding AR features to audio experiences.

User Interaction and Experience Implications

These advancements would allow for a dramatic paradigmatic change in how users interact with their devices as well as their surroundings. These new features would add seamless value to existing Apple AR wearables that blur the boundaries between digital content and real-world experiences.

Timeline Not Confirmed

Apple hasn't made official announcements regarding these developments yet. Thus, the timeline mentioned above for 2027 is not confirmed. The final designs, features, and functionalities for these products may also certainly change in significant ways before their launch.
