Amazon has cut fewer than 1,000 corporate jobs across India, the US and UK. The latest Amazon layoffs mainly target its Stores division, which manages core e-commerce operations. Employees learned about the cuts during Prime Big Deal Days, which ran October 6 and 7. Amazon says the restructuring will align Stores teams with current business priorities and improve execution.
The company confirmed the reductions but did not provide an exact number of affected roles. Reports indicate that customer service, marketplace support and retail engineering teams faced cuts. Amazon employees in India, the US and the UK received notices as the restructuring expanded. The company described the affected positions as a small number within its broader workforce.
An Amazon spokesperson said the company had adjusted parts of its Stores business. “We’ve adjusted parts of our Stores business because we believe this structure will better enable us to deliver on our priorities,” the spokesperson told Reuters. The statement points toward a targeted reorganization rather than a broad shutdown across Amazon’s operations.
The timing also adds significance, as Amazon announced the cuts during a major shopping event. Prime Big Deal Days brought heavy customer activity across Amazon’s retail platform during the two-day promotion. The layoffs therefore highlight how Amazon continues changing its retail structure despite strong seasonal shopping activity.
The latest workforce cuts follow Amazon’s much larger restructuring that removed around 30,000 corporate roles. That broader reduction started in late 2025 and continued through January 2026. Amazon has since continued smaller workforce changes across different teams and business areas.
India employees now face another round of uncertainty within Amazon’s global retail organization. Amazon has not released a country-wise breakdown, leaving the exact India impact unclear. The company’s latest move does not indicate a wider shutdown of Amazon operations in India.
Amazon also continues shifting resources toward artificial intelligence and related infrastructure investments. The workforce strategy reflects a sharper focus on leaner teams, automation and technology-led growth. Founder Jeff Bezos linked earlier cuts partly to pandemic-era hiring that rapidly expanded Amazon’s headcount.
Bezos said Amazon had grown its workforce substantially when online shopping demand surged during the pandemic. He also praised employees for handling an unusually demanding period for the company. The latest Amazon layoffs suggest that workforce adjustments remain part of Amazon’s post-pandemic restructuring strategy.
For Amazon India employees, the immediate impact remains limited to specific retail teams. The company’s continuing reorganization could reshape roles as Amazon prioritises technology and AI investments. The latest cuts therefore signal another stage in Amazon’s effort to build a leaner retail organization.
