Amazon India has created more than 160,000 seasonal work opportunities as it prepares for higher order volumes during the 2026 festive season. The company said the temporary roles will support its ecommerce and quick commerce operations across more than 400 Indian cities.
The workforce expansion covers major metros and several tier 2 and tier 3 cities. These include Varanasi, Kochi, Jalandhar, Ghaziabad, Ranchi, Salem and Gorakhpur. Amazon has already onboarded most of the seasonal associates and started training them for their roles.
Most seasonal associates will work across Amazon's fulfilment and delivery network. Their roles include picking, packing, shipping and delivering customer orders during the expected festive shopping rush.
The company has also added tens of thousands of work opportunities within its Amazon Now network, which supports fast deliveries. Amazon said thousands of women and persons with disabilities have joined its expanded workforce for the festive period.
"We have created over 1.6 lakh seasonal work opportunities across our operations network," said Abhinav Singh, Vice President of Operations at Amazon India, APAC, Middle East, Africa and Turkiye.
Singh said the additional workers would support Amazon's fulfilment and logistics operations during the seasonal increase in demand. He added that some seasonal associates continue working with Amazon after the festive period, while others return in following years.
Amazon said seasonal associates will have access to workplace safety and welfare programs available across its operations network. Eligible workers can receive provident fund, Employees' State Insurance Corporation benefits and gratuity in line with applicable laws.
Associates working inside Amazon facilities also have access to drinking water, washrooms and onsite first-aid services. Larger facilities offer cafeterias and other workplace amenities. Amazon employees at its sites work five days a week and receive two days off each week, according to the company.
Amazon also operates its Early Access to Pay program. Eligible associates can withdraw up to 80% of their accrued basic salary between the first and twentieth day of each month.
Meanwhile, Amazon's Samridhi program will help eligible associates register on India's e-Shram portal. The initiative also provides information about government welfare and social security programs.
Amazon has introduced several welfare measures for delivery workers. Its Sammaan program includes education scholarships for children of eligible associates, insurance coverage, access to government benefits and road safety support.
The company said nearly 90,000 delivery associates received expanded health and insurance benefits earlier in 2026. Coverage includes outpatient treatment, hospital care and compensation linked to temporary or permanent disabilities.
Amazon also operates Ashray centers, which provide air-conditioned rest areas for delivery drivers. The company plans to increase the network to 250 centers by the end of 2026. Mobile Ashray vans currently operate in Delhi, Mumbai and Bengaluru.
Amazon India said its network supports more than 1.7 million sellers across the country. Its fulfillment centers operate across 15 states and provide more than 43 million cubic feet of storage space for seller inventory.
The company also operates sortation centers across 19 states and has close to 2,000 Amazon-operated and partner delivery stations. In addition, around 28,000 Hub Delivery partners and thousands of Amazon Flex partners support deliveries across India.
The seasonal hiring drive adds temporary capacity to this network as Amazon prepares for higher festive demand across e-commerce and quick commerce services.
